Do I need the Aspera Connect Plug-in for file transfer?

Yes you do. The Aspera Connect Plug-in enables the high speed file transfer. Without it you will be unable to Upload or Download files.

Edit

Where can I get the Aspera Connect Plug-in?

Click here for a direct connection to download the Aspera Connect Plug-in. The Aspera download site recognizes your computer and operating system and will present you with the correct plug-in for your machine. For a step-by-step instruction, please click here for Aspera Instructions for MAC or here for Aspera Instructions for Windows.

Edit

Are there any restrictions on the names I can use for files and folders in FileSociety?

Yes, there are some restrictions. It is best to avoid very long names. Most systems limit to 256 characters or less. Also, the following characters should not be used for names because they may cause the file transfer to fail:

• / \ " : ' ? > < & * | , ; { } ( ) # @ !

When naming files or folders, do not leave a space at the end of the name because it will cause Aspera to skip over this item for transfer. If you receive an error message of a failed transfer check for the above illegal characters or an end space and remove them, then try the transfer again with the renamed files or folders. Edit

I just uploaded a file, but I don't see it in my Library

Once the upload has completed in Aspera you will need to click on the Image Refresh icon to update the Library view or refresh the browser page. The Library needs to go back to the server to access the new information and then populate it in the UI.

Edit

Why is the transfer speed slower at my house than it is at the office? Why is upload slower than download?

Home Cable and DSl providers typically place restrictions on their clients and limit the amount of available upload bandwidth. Typical results from home connections will be 3 Mbps – 20 Mbps depending on the amount of network traffic for download and 200 Kbps – 500 Kbps for upload. For this reason, it’s recommended that users use home connections predominantly for download purposes where there will be significant speed gains.

Edit

I received an error message that the Aspera Plug-in was unable to authenticate using Port 22. What does this mean?

This can happen when a company firewall has closed TCP Port 22. If the port is closed the Aspera Connect Plug-in fasp™ technology cannot get out to connect and enable the transfer. You need to contact your IT department to open TCP port 22. If your techs need more detailed information about the Aspera Connect Plug-in and the fasp™ technology please click here and go to the Aspera Technology Page

Why can't I upload into my Library?

In order to Upload into your Library you need to have been given permission to a folder by your Admin. All access permissions for a User are set by the Admin. Please contact your account Admin to get set up.

Edit

I don't want someone to have access to the account anymore, but want them to have access again in the future. Will I have to delete them and invite them back in again?

If you you want to temporarily deny a user access or 'deactivate' them, go to the Account Library for that User, select them and then select the Image Deactivate / Activate icon under Users and Groups. The green icon for this User will turn grey and the User will no longer have access to this Account. To activate them again, select the User and then select the Deactivate / Activate icon.

Edit

"I'm in several FileSociety Accounts. Why do I have the ability to manage Users and Groups in one but not the other?'''

Only an Admin can manage Users and Groups. For one of your Accounts you are an Admin and will have an icon to the left of your name with an 'A' Image. For the other Account you are a User Imageand have access and permissions designated by the Admin of that Account. If you want to change your status, please contact the Admin of that Account.
